The evolution of adults being educated and the role of the smartphone and tablet technology have changed in adult education. We are now seeing more technological applications being used in mechanical shops nationwide. My partner Rick Meyers (https://bc-ferries-nautical-langauge.com/) will share and explain his experiences on Evolution of adults being educated and I will share my findings and experiences on smartphone and tablet technology in adult education.
Being a millennial I have grown up with the ever evolving computer technology. For over fourteen years I have been working in a small automotive shop as the head technician. I have shared my journey with many apprentices who in turn have become certified technicians. I wish to my continue my journey to the next "destination", my goal of becoming an Automotive Service Technician (AST) Instructor.
I discovered at Vancouver community college (VCC) the "Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) 3100 Foundations of Adult Education” that they offer an online that caught my attention and drew me in. This Is the first time I have taken an online course and attempted blogging, I’m excited.
The smartphone and tablet technologies are excellent tools in adult education, “Ed Tech magazine” by Jimmy Daly posted a blog about Adobes study on mobile computing usage, looking at June 2010 to June 2013. It only took “three years for tablets to drive more traffic than smartphone usage”. I can see the fascination to a tablet device for it's larger screen and better processing and greater storage space. As well as they have the capability to add a keyboard attachment for ease. For myself I prefer the use of my smartphone, having a single device rather than to have multiple. As a personal plus my phone is with me, it is light weight and capable of accessing the internet more simply, which makes it more versatile.

As I mentioned previously this is my first time as an online student and first-time blogger I have personally found my smartphone exceptionally useful tool for my studies. With my smartphone I can keep in contact with my study partner (Rick Meyers) easily by phone calls, voice messages, text messages, multi media messages, social media, and emails. We found this technology unbelievably useful to reflect upon each others work and ideas with valuable feedback and ease. Rick and myself are both new to this blogging and online course environment but with smartphone technology it makes our lives much simpler.
When I am away from my home computer I can do research, note taking, editing my projects, and downloading it to my phone. I found this especially affective and I am at work, and I have a "AHA moment!!". If I want to add to or change my work, I can do it immediately or I can send a memo to myself and edit my project later. Another great example is If I get puzzled on a problem at work and I need to quickly locate a phone number, store location, hours, or even a helpful walk through video clip to reset a maintenance reminder light, this is a great tool.
